Project History

The Dubai based architectural firm, Al Hutaib Architects (represented by Architect Shabbir Savliwala) who have extensive experience in Iraq and were responsible for the reconstruction of the Kufa Masjid, were appointed for the design, consultancy, and engineering services for the redevelopment of Al Qasr Residence in Karbala and for the restoration of the Al Najaf Residence.

IDEA (International Design Engineering and Architecture) of Beirut, Lebanon who had been working in Iraq closely with the construction company of Imam Hussain (a.s.) foundation, Khairat Al Sobtain, were appointed Project Manager and Engineers.

Abadgaran Margoon of Tehran Iran were Project Consultants for all Iranian contractors and suppliers. They have vast experience in Karbala as the Master Consultants for a 500 room hotel in Karbala.

Mr. Alfaz Miller, Principal Architect of ABM Architects of Mumbai India was appointed Interior Designers and worked on a no charge basis.

Mr. Imran Merchant, the owner of Painterior, a highly reputed firm in Mumbai, India specialising in repair and renovation of old buildings and new construction, assisted on a no charge basis in overseeing the repair, restoration, and construction of the various projects.

AL QASR RESIDENCE

Current Status 
Al Qasr Residence, a newly constructed 13 storey Pilgrims Residence in Karbala al Muqaddasa was opened in mid 2021.

Al Qasr Residence is located on Bab al Qibla Street of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain a.s. near Qa’atar Rasool only 350/400 metres from the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain (A.S.)

The total capacity of Al Qasr Residence will be approximately 450 guests, however, we are now ready with rooms to accommodate 330 guests.

AL NAJAF RESIDENCE

Current Status
Al Najaf Residence, with a capacity of about 70 Pilgrims, is located just 90 meters away from the Haram of Imam Ali A.S. This property has been carefully restored to its original heritage architectural aesthetics while simultaneously being upgraded with modern amenities. The restoration work took almost 20 months and cost approximately US$ 2 Million.

On the joyous occasion of the Wilaadat of Imam e Zamana (A.S.) Anjuman - e - Faiz - e - Panjetani (NGO) – Iraq re-opened it under the name "AL – NAJAF Residence" on the 17th of Shaban (25th May 2016).

Al Najaf Residence has been very well received with more than 10,000 guests staying here since it re-opened in 2016.

Al Kadhmiya Residence with a capacity of 76 guests is virtually touching the boundary of the Haram. Less than 5 minutes walk to Haram Entrance with an unparalleled view of the Holy Shrines from the Restaurant and some Rooms.
